Now That My Book's Out...

NOW THAT MY BOOK’S OUT….

In real estate, it’s “location, location, location.” In book promotion, it seems more like “connections, connections, connections.” Oprah, where are you?

I am lining up more Book Talks. They help get the word out and are fun to do. And some books sell after each one, which is a good thing. I need to break out from the Eastern Shore of Maryland to places like Pennsylvania, Florida and Montana where some of the stories featured in my book take place. I wonder if people in Bozeman, Montana for example, would turn out to hear an Easterner talk about a book called What Else You Got? Freelancing in Radio? Maybe. If not, there’s always great fly fishing nearby.

The thought of an audiobook is enticing. Here’s something I know nothing about, nor does my publisher. We need to contact a producer of such books and learn more. I’d want to narrate, which wouldn’t be easy, considering all the voices in my various stories. Would I impersonate or just use a different tempo for each voice?

Question: At a recent Book Talk in Chestertown, MD a friend asked me to sign two copies of my book that she bought for her daughters. As I’m writing the first note (creative, of course) a man in line asks a question. Time out! Thinking, creative writing and answering a question simultaneously does not work for me. Can other authors do this? Is there a technique to focus on one while listening to the other? Of course, come to think of it, it’s not such a bad problem to have—I mean signing books while people are lined up means people are interested and buying, right?
